About Lamar State College - Port Arthur
Lamar State College - Port Arthur, a two-year, state-supported institution, is a member of The Texas State University System. Located in the city of Port Arthur, an industrial and cultural center of Southeast Texas, the Lamar State College - Port Arthur campus contains 22 buildings situated on approximately 40 acres. The city of Port Arthur features modern public schools, churches, shopping districts and recreation areas serving a community of approximately 70,000 persons. The greater metropolitan area, known as the Golden Triangle, includes the cities of Beaumont, Orange, Vidor, Port Neches, Nederland, Groves and Bridge City. All lie within 25 miles of Port Arthur and form the heart of the upper Texas Gulf Coast where approximately 350,000 people live.
Lamar State College - Port Arthur offers general academic course leading to Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees. Courses for transfer to four-year institutions are offered in accounting, economics, anthropology, art, government, health, home economics, physical education, physics, history, speech, computer science, mathematics, psychology, biology, chemistry, geography, geology, sociology, criminal justice, music, drama, English and Spanish.
The technical education curriculum at Lamar State College - Port Arthur includes programs in commercial music, accounting, automotive technology, computer information systems, cosmetology, industrial instrumentation, legal assistant, management development, medical assistant, medical office administration, microcomputer support specialist, substance abuse counseling, surgical technology, vocational nursing and registered nursing.
