Auditions and Interviews for 2012

Auditions and interviews are being scheduled for students desiring to enter the Commercial Music programs in fall 2012.
Performance: Session Musician
Auditions being schedule for
  • Voice
  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Bass
  • Drum Set
Auditions will be held Monday, June 25; Tuesday, July 10; Wednesday, July 25; Thursday, August 9; Friday, August 24 .

Interviews for Sound Engineer and Entertainment Business Certificate are ongoing through August 24.

Auditions for Touring Band vacancies will be held August 9 and August 24.
Instruments to be auditioned are voice, guitar, drums, and keys. Sign- up for your audition slot on the door of PAC 138. Audition material is posted -- click on the Auditions/Interview link at the right.

Battle of the Bands winners!

Congratulations to the group Dear You, this years winners of the Battle of the Bands competition! Band members are Mason McDonald, Chris Roach, Louis Moore, Danny Davis, and Mason McDonald. The band will receive $1000, free studio recording time, the opportunity to perform at one of our Port Arthur Live! concerts, and scholarship eligibility. Congratulations!


Introducing our new certificate program!

Certificate Level 1 Entertainment Business

The Entertainment Business Certificate is designed for students who desire a more in-depth study of practical entertainment business practices, to prepare for self-employment or to enhance their employment potential. Subjects include entertainment law, management, marketing, and business principles. An interview is required; prior enterainment/music business curricular or professional experience is expected. Sets, the systems of whole numbers, the systems of integers, elementary number theory, the system of rational numbers and the system of real numbers.
Linear, quadratic equation and inequalities, determinants, matrices, systems of equations, partial fractions, binomial theorem, logarithms, theory of equations.

Microcomputer Applications or Business Computer Information Systems
Conceptual Physics or Physical Science
Choose one course from the Behavioral Science or Social Science offerings which include History, Government, Geography, Psychology, and Sociology.
 
Semester 3
Commercial Music Theory II

Survey of the Music Business
Commercial Class Piano
Songwriting
Computer Music Software (Finale)
Commercial Music Ensemble
One of the following:
    Applied Piano or Applied Bass or Applied Drums or Applied Guitar or Applied Voice
Participation in a small commercial music ensemble concentrating on all commercial  music performance styles and grooves.
An introduction to the function and maintenance of computer hardware in the recording studio environment with an overview of the history of the computer – PC and Macintosh.  Topics include hard drives and their operation, optical drives, flash based drives, floppy drives, on board ports, processor statistics and architecture, motherboards and their connections, expansion cards, operating systems, the installation of audio programs, virus protection, and the downloading and installation of software and updates.
 
Semester 4
Commercial Class Piano
Commercial Music Ensemble
Acoustics
Behavioral Science/Social Science elective
Commercial Arranging/Composition or Commercial Orchestration
One of the following:
    Applied Piano or Applied Electric Bass or Applied Drums or Applied Guitar or Applied Voice
Prepares the student to write for voices and instruments to include ranges, transposition and idiosyncrasies of each instrument with emphasis on commercial music chord voicings.
