| Lamar State College-Port Arthur Commercial Music Department is proud to announce the offering of an Associate of Arts Degree in COMMERCIAL MUSIC PERFORMANCE with a specialty in SESSION MUSIC, beginning in the Fall of 2008. This opportunity is open to musicians and vocalists. If you have pretty good chops on guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, or you sing up a storm, this may be the opportunity you've been seeking! | LSC-PA Studio Facilities Offer Multiple Platforms |
| It is primary to our mission here at LSC-PA that our students graduate into the real world with hands-on knowledge of a wide variety of recording platforms. Studio A is oufitted with a Mac-based Pro Tools and Nuendo control. Studio B offers PC-based Pro Tools and Cubase 4. Studio C avails our students to 10 IMac workstations with Pro Tools LE. Finally, Analog has joined the family of LSC-PA Recording Studio platforms with the addition of a MCI-JH24 Analog 24 Track Tape Recorder, a MCI-Autolocator III, and a Peavy AMR 1600 Audio Console. Students now have the opportunity to learn how to record by tape, and digitally via Pro Tools (both Mac and PC), Nuendo, and Cubase 4. |

COMMERCIAL MUSIC PROGRAMS
There are two degree and certificate programs in Commercial Music at Lamar State College - Port Arthur.
1. Commercial Music: Audio Engineering / Recording Arts
Available since the inception of the program at Lamar State College - Port Arthur, the Audio Engineering degree and certificate plans prepare the student for a career in the Recording Arts as an Audio Engineer. Based on the industry philosophy that a good audio engineer is a good musician, the study of audio engineering and recording is tucked within the Commercial Music program. Examples of courses included in the degree plan include Audio Engineering I-IV, Midi I, Piano I-II, Songwriting, Music Theory I-II, Acoustics, Studio Hardware. 2. Commercial Music Performance / Session Musician
We are very excited about our newest offering, an AAS Degree in Commercial Music Performance/ Session Musician. The program will be available for enrollment in the Fall of 2008 by audition only. Very few commercial schools and institutions of higher learning offer this degree, which prepares gifted rhythm musicians for careers as musicians in the recording studio environment. Guitarists, Bassists, Keyboardists, and Drummers learn all the grooves, from latin to country and rock, and become fluent in commercial notation systems, while sharpening their improvisational skills. Led by one of the best session musicians in the business, this Commercial Music Performance degree program will be put in place in 2008. Look for updates on this website. |
