COMMERCIAL MUSIC PROGRAMS
There are two degrees and one certificate offered in Commercial Music at Lamar State College - Port Arthur.
A.A.S. Commercial Music: Sound Engineer
Available since the inception of the program at Lamar State College - Port Arthur, the Sound Engineering track prepares the student for a career in the Recording Arts as an Audio Engineer. Based on the industry philosophy that a good audio engineer is a good musician, the study of audio engineering and recording is tucked within the Commercial Music program. Examples of courses included in the degree plan include Audio Engineering I-IV, Midi I, Piano I-II, Songwriting, Music Theory I-II, Acoustics, Studio Hardware. We offer advanced training in industry software such as Pro Tools, Cubase, Finale, and Sonar, as well as many others. In interview is required for admission. A.A.S. Commercial Music: Performance (Session Musician)
Very few commercial schools and institutions of higher learning offer this track, which prepares gifted rhythm musicians for careers as musicians in the recording studio environment. Guitarists, Bassists, Keyboardists, and Drummers learn all the grooves, from Latin to country and rock, and become fluent in commercial notation systems, while sharpening their improvisational skills. Vocalists learn songs in a variety of genres, and work as both lead and background singers. All of our musicians are part of a live band, with multiple performances a semester in our dedicated Music Hall. An audition is required for admission. Certificate Level 1 Entertainment Business
The Entertainment Business Certificate is designed for students who desire a more in-depth study of practical entertainment business practices, to prepare for self-employment or to enhance their employment potential. Subjects include entertainment law, management, marketing, and business principles. Note: Prior entertainment/music business curricular or professional experience is expected.
